The project was funded by federal funds administered by Caltrans Local Assistance and consisted the widening of the existing Jaye Street Bridge from two lanes to four lanes, including reconstruction of the street approaches. The project was in the central portion of the City along South Jaye Street, crossing over the Tule River. The existing bridge consists of a reinforced flat slab superstructure supported by 18” diameter columns made up of seven spans with a total length of approximately 242 feet. The bridge widening consisted of a reinforced flat slab superstructure supported with the 18” columns. The project also consisted of two retaining walls to support a walking trail beneath the bridge, driven steel piles supported the retaining and abutment walls. The new 18” columns of the bridge widening are supported by 30” CISS piles within an active riverbed.
